How do I maintain my water heater?

How do I maintain my water heater?

Today, Cotherm is the leading French manufacturer of components for water heaters, boilers and renewable energies. Electric storage water heaters are pressurised appliances that comply with strict safety standards. Using original Cotherm parts guarantees a solution perfectly adapted to the appliance.

A problem with your thermostat?

The thermostat is new and it’s tripped, why?

First, check that the water inlet is open (this is often forgotten during installation).
Otherwise, check that the water heater is not scaled.
Scale is a thermal insulator; instead of dissipating into the water, the heat from the resistance remains in the heating element, causing the resistance to trip.
Also check the tightness of the thermostat terminals.
Incorrect tightening can lead to overheating, which in turn can affect the safety system. This is particularly true of thermostats with rigid sensors.

What can I do about a faulty thermostat?

  • If the unit is more than 2 years old, it is no longer under warranty; we advise you to change the thermostat.
  • If the unit is less than 2 years old, return it to the distributor or manufacturer who supplied it.

Why is the thermostat’s maximum activation temperature set at 65°C?

Above 65°C, there’s a risk of scalding and the water heater can scale up very quickly, resulting in excessive electricity consumption and, ultimately, damage to the appliance.
